Our captain, Paul Grimston, was the best charter captain we have had. We have been coming to Ucluelet, Vancouver, BC for many years and have fished with numerous charter boats. Now that we have had such a wonderful experience fishing with Paul, we won’t choose any other charter. Than you Paul for a wonderful trip.

In short fishing with Capt. Paul was not fishing at all. It was Catching! Hooking, fighting, and landing pure chrome fighting power. Paul had gear down on the track before the sun was up and we hit our first double header of the day (we had three!), as the sun broke over the tree tops. Majestic! The fun didn’t stop until we limited out on chrome Chinook in 2.5 hours. Fighting these mighty fish side by side with my dad, who taught me to fish as soon as I could hold a rod, is something I’ll cherish forever. To hear my dad say “well that’s off the bucket list” with the glee of a boy was priceless. All the Chinook we landed were between 20-30 pounds, and after Paul cleaned them for us and brought us to the packers, we ended up with 52 pounds of beautiful red fillets. That’s about 1k$ worth of fish! We decided that was enough for us even though the offer to continue to fish for coho or halibut was on offer. Paul was a great guide and has 20 years of fishing experience on the west coast. He was fun, kind, knowledgeable, and entertaining. A good teacher and a fast friend. Would I recommend Paul and Castaway Charters? Hell Yes!!! And you can bet I’ll be back.

Fishing in Ucluelet with Castaway Charters will not disappoint. Paul’s boat is exceptionally comfortable and roomy. His experience is unmatched and he always finds the fish. Each time we have fished with Paul, we have went home with enough fish to last until the next season. Since my earliest childhood memories I’ve wanted to go salmon and halibut fishing. Our trip with Castaway Charters hit the mark. We had an amazing time with excellent results. We returned home with coolers full of salmon and halibut meat. The best part was the way Paul made the trip awesome for my 11-year old son. Catching fish was important, but it was secondary to the amazing, lasting memories I made with my son. The happy look on his face while holding his salmon is priceless to me.

I took my son and his wife fishing with Paul and Castaway Charters. It was their first time fishing in the Pacific. Both caught their limit of Chinook, and got some halibut as well. Paul’s boat is roomy and comfortable for four fishers, plus Paul. Paul is easy going, helps the newbies work their fish, and gives excellent service upon return when he cleans and fillets the catch. He gave us good advice on where and how to get our fish frozen and home.
I’ve gone fishing out of Ucluelet several times on different charters. Paul’s boat, service, and knowledge of the grounds made this trip the best one. Next time I will certainly be booking with Castaway Charters.
